Khairy wants guidelines for 'gatal' men

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has suggested that critics of Malaysia's female athletes' attire should have a hard look at themselves.

This afternoon, he retweeted a series of posts by one @dimishtra who  took issue with those critical of SEA Games gold-winning female gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi's attire.

"Whole incident smacks of sexism. No one really complains when Sazali (Samad, Malaysian bodybuilder) poses or male athletes wear swimming trunks," said @dimishtra.

Following this, Khairy, who appeared to concur, said Farah Ann's critics were likely "gatal (lecherous)" men.

"Should also have guidelines for gatal men to lower their gaze when they can't contain themselves watching sports," he wrote.

Despite winning six medals, including two golds, some netizens chose to criticise Farah Ann's attire instead of congratulating her for the amazing feat.

They claimed that her attire was too revealing and un-Islamic. Farah Ann, 21, is a Muslim.

Khairy has been vocal against Farah Ann's critics but it appeared not everyone in the cabinet shared the same sentiment.

Last night, minister in charge of Islamic affairs Jamil Khir Baharom told the Dewan Rakyat that Muslims have an obligation to cover the "aurat", regardless of the circumstances.

Should also have guidelines for gatal men to lower their gaze when they can't contain themselves watching sports.
