Muhyiddin warns of unrest if bumis left out

Swipenter: After more than four decades of New Economic Policy (NEP) and special treatment, Malay-first DPM Muhyiddin Yassin is still singing the same tune that the Malays were left out of the country's socio-economic development.

Where was Muhyiddin since the early 1970s? If the Malays were left out, then it has everything to do with Umno, their champion and defender.

The Umno government, which makes and implements its pro-Malay policies, will have to take the blame for failing the Malays. Indeed, non-Malays have no say in these policies.

So the Malays must start questioning why they are being left out when Umno holds almost all the power as well as the purse strings of the country.

Here is a small clue. It has nothing to do with the non-Malays but everything to do with Malay elites, crony capitalism Umno-style, and nepotism.

The blame game is over. Umno has failed the Malays. It can no longer ‘scapegoat’ others for their failures to uplift the Malays.

Vijay47: Muhyiddin, what do you mean by “unrest” (if bumiputeras were left out)?

Are you suggesting that if the Malays created havoc in the country, it would be wholly justified since they had been "deprived of their rights"?

After 50 years of spoon-feeding and mollycoddling while Umno went home with the cherries, it is no surprise that the Malays would feel denied.

But the villains are not the convenient non-Malays. They are the well-connected Malays who have been looting the till like there is no tomorrow.

To ask a petty question - is there a single Umno MP who is not rich? Umno has honed banditry to such a fine art that its members actually take offence if they are asked to account for money they plundered from public funds.

Whenever Umno is in dire straits, its leaders at once play the hero, draw their keris and instigate the Malays to violence. And to think, Muhyiddin, that you hope to be prime minister.
