The delegates were irate that they were not given a chance to debate the contentious issue, and that the decision was left to the few in the party’s leadership.
“Why does this sensitive issue not need to be debated? When this involves PAS’ direction? We are leaders representing those at the division. How will we answer to our members?” asked Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, the son of former president and opposition leader Datuk Fadzil Mohd Noor.
Faiz, who is a Rembau delegate, asked Datuk Mahfuz Omar to explain his decision as chairman of the motion selection committee, causing a commotion from those who agreed with him.“Don’t try to get divorced, but still want to sleep in the same home. We don’t want to be friends with DAP but we want to be with Pakatan Rakyat (PR). This is a crippled Pakatan,” slammed Faiz.
“If we are courageous and strict, let the delegates debate what the muktamar wants, only then can the PAS central committee implement it.”
Another delegate from Kota Raja, who wished to remain unnamed, warned that the consequences will be heavily felt at the grassroots, especially in Selangor where PR rules in a coalition.
“Why can’t we discuss it? We don’t make a decision with only two to three people. We in the muktamar, we also have our rights,” said the delegate.
“All this time we said, if there is anything to discuss, let’s do it in the muktamar. So this is where we discuss this. Not on Facebook, not on WhatsApp... Leaders, don’t take this lightly!”
PAS today confirmed its decision to sever ties with DAP while still remaining in PR with PKR, after its motion to do so was approved without debate.
