Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said that the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) was looking at having dedicated FCBs for students.
He said the council is currently working out the routes and timing with Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.
"We have found out that the students have to change buses to get to their schools, which are not on our current routes.
"So, we are looking to have more direct routes for them," he said, after going on a two-hour bus ride on the FCB service this morning.
Azizi said that the buses will display a school bus sign and will operate between 6.30am and 7.30am.
"The public will not be allowed to use the FCB when the school bus sign is on.
"Once the students have been dropped off at their respective schools, then the FCB operations will resume as usual," he said.
MBPJ is also planning to expand the FCB services to four routes next year.
The council will be adding two new routes in Kelana Jaya and Taman Bahagia.
The existing routes the FCB is servicing are from the Taman Jaya LRT station to SS2 and PPUM, and Taman Medan to PJ New Town, then back to Taman Jaya LRT station.
Azizi also said that the council would be adding an additional eight buses to cater to the new routes.
He said the estimated RM4.5 million cost of the additional buses will be included in the MBPJ 2016 budget.
"We are looking for at least four of the eight buses bought to be electric.
"It will cost more but it is better for the environment and our aim to make the city green," he said.
Azizi added that all the new buses will come with WiFi and facilities for the disabled.
It was reported that the FCB service, which was launched on May 14 last year, catered to about 9,000 passengers a day.
Among the areas the 28.2km-route covers are SS2, Kampung Medan, Kelana Jaya LRT station, Kampung Dato Harun KTM station, Asia Jaya LRT station, Sections 14, 16, 17, PJ New Town, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre and PJ Old Town.
The service runs from 6am to 9pm daily.
