DEATH KNELL FOR NAJIB: Twist & turn as he will, Umno men insist on him meeting Dr M over 1MDB
KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) has been urged to meet former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to iron out issues involving them.
Umno Supreme Council Member Tan Sri Prof. Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah said Najib should meet Dr Mahathir and they should both sort out their differences.
"Dr Mahathir is very reachable and as a person who is older than Najib, there should be no problem if Najib goes and meets him,"
"As Dr Mahathir's student, Najib and Dr Mahathir should iron out their their differences in views," Ibrahim told the media after attending Najib's closed door session with Umno division information chiefs and NGOs at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.
The briefing chaired by Najib was to brief party grassroot leaders on the recently-tabled 11th Malaysia Plan, the goods and services tax (GST) and other current issues.
Ibrahim said Najib's meeting with Dr Mahathir is the only solution to rectify issues involving the two prominent leaders.
"It is the best solution, if not, the issues won't be settled. My recommendation is for Najib to meet Dr Mahathir ... not the other way around," he said.
Gabungan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu chairperson Hasan Hamzah shared Ibrahim's views and said it would be best for the nation if the two leaders worked together.
Hasan urged Najib to meet Dr Mahathir as soon as possible to resolve the issues between them.
"Most of the NGOs urge Najib to meet Dr Mahathir as that is the best solution,"
"But whether Dr Mahathir would accept the idea, it is up to the latter to decide," Hasan said.
Meanwhile, Hasan said Najib had promised the 1,500 crowd who attended the session that he would solve the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy in the coming months.
"Earliest is two months, but at any rate, he said he will solve it by the end of the year," Hasan said. - Sundaily
