'Butt of jokes' Najib told to show up in Parliament

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang today said Najib Abdul Razak should answer questions in Parliament over 1MDB after a carefully-tailored dialogue on the matter for the prime minister turned into a public relations disaster yesterday.

"Najib's 'Nothing2Hide' forum infamously turned into a public relations disaster and its time the prime minister have a 'tell all' session in Parliament to demonstrate that he has really nothing to hide in the RM42 billion scandal," said Lim in a statement today.

Yesterday, Najib failed to turned up at the dialogue at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur, claiming that he was prevented by police from doing so due to security concerns.

With his absence, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is Najib's fiercest critic and was present, took over the stage to deliver a speech criticising the prime minister.

The 90-year-old Mahathir was eventually stopped by police after speaking for less than 10 minutes.

"Nobody believes that the last-minute cancellation of the 1MDB 'Nothing2Hide' forum has anything to do with order and security – but everything to do with Najib's political security.

Greatest test

"Never before in the nation's history has the prime minister become the butt of national jokes," observed Lim.

As such, Lim said Najib would do best to just come to Parliament and explain the issues surrounding 1MDB.

"Najib has hidden from the Cabinet and Parliament for six years that he is the final approving authority for 1MDB deals enabling him to avoid accountability and responsibility since 2009 by pretending that he was not involved in the 1MDB deals, transactions and investments.

"Najib cannot delegate his responsibility to account to Parliament and the nation why 1MDB has ballooned to become a RM42 billion scandal in six years to Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah as it is Najib and not Husni who is the final approving authority for 1MDB.

"This will be the greatest test whether Najib really has 'Nothing2Hide' on the 1MDB scandal," he said.
