AZIZAH callls for 'continued discussion' among Pakatan parties despite DAP, PAS declaring break-up
PKR said today that there was an urgent need to review the working relationship between the three partners in the coalition to save Pakatan Rakyat from demise.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the three parties must have continuous discussions among themselves and with non-governmental organisations to revitalise the people's faith in PR's struggles for change.
She said PR partners must not lose sight of its fight for reform but remember that it was their solidarity in political cooperation that had inspired and given hope to Malaysians.
"Keadilan (PKR) acknowledges that there are problems within Pakatan Rakyat which demand the urgent attention of fellow leaders in order to overcome this challenge with utmost wisdom.
"Keadilan believes that there is an urgent need to review the working relationship in order to strengthen the coalition of progressive political parties that holds to the Pakatan Rakyat common policy framework, in line with the aspirations of the rakyat demanding for change.
"We hereby suggest that continued discussions must be held with political parties and NGOs within the wider framework of civil society in order to shape the future direction of a strong Malaysia," she said in a statement today.
PR appears to be headed for doom after PAS decided to end ties with DAP. The two parties had been at each others' throats since March, when the Islamist party tabled and passed its hudud bill to implement the shariah penal code in Kelantan.
The relationship went further downhill when PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang tabled a private member's bill in the Dewan Rakyat to amend the Shariah Courts Act to pave the way for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

DAP, which opposed PAS's hudud ambition, criticised its partner to the point of severing ties with Hadi for allegedly failing to honour the PR consensus.
In the recently concluded PAS muktamar, the Islamist party accepted a motion without debate to end ties with DAP, putting the fate of the PR coalition in limbo.
Dr Wan Azizah today said that key issues such as economic and educational reforms, the tackling of corruption and abuse of power as well as the fight against the injustices of Umno-Barisan Nasional must be continued.
"The Selangor model of administration led by (Menteri Besar) (Mohamed) Azmin Ali that holds to the Pakatan Rakyat common policy framework has produced tremendous results in key policies including that of housing, microcredit assistance and sustainable education that has become a catalyst for the fight for change at the federal level.
"Therefore, I call upon key party leaders to continue to strengthen the relationship and understanding that has been cultivated since 15 years ago.
"Solidarity in a political cooperation such as this has ignited the imagination of the people and given new hope to Malaysia. May the Almighty bless this endeavour, in order to realise a more just and better Malaysia for all," she said. – TMI
