MEGA WEDDING FALLOUT: We only wanted to help Najib & Rosmah celebrate - PKR's Sim
KUALA LUMPUR - PKR’s Sim Tze Tzin does not blame the police for arresting him today for he believed they were acting on “orders from the higher-ups”.
The Bayan Baru Member of Parliament, who participated in the March 28 KitaLawan rally, was arrested today at the Dang Wangi police station after he was summoned to give his statement there.
He was, however, released on police bail.
“This is so unnecessary and unprofessional.
“This habit of arresting rally participants and MPs has to stop,” he said when met outside the Dang Wangi police station here today.
Sim, who was arrested under Section 143 of the Penal Code for taking part in an unlawful assembly, was represented by his lawyer, Gooi Hsiao Leung, who is also the Alor Star MP.
According to Sim, 12 people, including him, had been arrested so far and revealed that Seberang Jaya MP Dr Afif Bahardin, too, will be summoned in the near future.
“On that day, we assembled to celebrate the wedding of the Prime Minister’s daughter. After the assembly, everyone went back peacefully
“So to us this is a harassment and it has to stop. We urge the police to focus on fighting crime, not arresting people for political purposes.”
Meanwhile, when asked on his thoughts regarding PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s performance in Parliament after winning the Permatang Pauh seat earlier this month, Gooi said she was doing “a good job”.
“We are happy that she is our Opposition leader in the Parliament now.
“After all, she was the Opposition leader before. She has the experience and she knows what she’s doing,” said Gooi.
After the incarceration of then Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy, his supporters conducted weekly KitaLawan rallies, demanding for his release. - Therakyatpost
