DON'T TRY TO COVER UP 1MDB DEAL - Muslim group warns Tabung Haji not to copy NFC tactics

DON'T TRY TO COVER UP 1MDB DEAL - Muslim group warns Tabung Haji not to copy NFC tactics
KUALA LUMPUR - The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) has questioned today Lembaga Tabung Haji’s (LTH) police report against a local blog for leaking its property transaction documents.
According to Abim, the pilgrim fund board’s decision to do so was similar to the one taken by National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFCorp), the company at the centre of the RM250 million cattle farming scandal that led to the fall of a senior Umno minister.
“Abim takes this action seriously because it seems like there is a confidential matter to be kept secret from public knowledge,” the group’s president Amidi Abd Manan said in a brief statement.
“This action was similar to the NFCorp which sought action against individuals who exposed it to the public.”
Amidi said LTH should instead take the chance to explain the situation to its customers, to guarantee their confidence.
LTH chief Datuk Johan Abdullah had lodged the report yesterday evening, according to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa.
On Wednesday, an anonymous blog called “The Benchmark” published copies of the agreement to the purported sale of two parcels of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) land in the Tun Razak Exchange to LTH for RM772 million.
Quoting sources with direct knowledge on the matter, Reuters also reported yesterday that 1MDB is set to sell two plots of land from the Tun Razak Exchange project to the pilgrimage fund for about RM700 million.
LTH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim denied the transaction yesterday, before the board today confirmed that it bought land from 1MDB, but only one parcel for RM188 million, instead of two as claimed.
The Tun Razak Exchange, planned as a 70-acre financial centre within the capital, is one of two high-profile property projects in 1MDB’s portfolio. - Malay Mail
