Seremban police chief misquoted on abortion issue

He just said it is correct for a pregnant married woman suffering mental and physical stress to seek advice from a specialist.
abortion_600SEREMBAN: Seremban police chief ACP Muhamad Zaki Harun has denied that he had isued a press statement saying that abortion by married couples is legal.
“I want to emphasise that the headline and the content of the newspaper report is contrary to the statement I made to the reporter concerned.
“I never said such a thing. I just said it is correct for a pregnant married woman who suffered mental and physical stress to seek advice from a medical specialist,” he told Bernama today.
Muhamad Zaki said he never said that a married woman can go for an abortion because there is no provision in this country’s law that allows it.
He was referring to a report in The Malay Mail newspaper on March 28 with the headline “Cops Say Abortion Legal For Married Couples.”
“The newspaper report also challenged my credibility as the police chief. A misunderstanding over the newspaper report caused certain parties to criticise me with remarks which are uncalled for.
“However, I take a positive attitude because they criticised me based on the newspaper reports and not based on my real statement.”
Muhamad Zaki advised the public to be careful when making comments as insulting the police force over something unclear should not have happened.
“With this explanation, I hope that all parties understand my real statement. What happened has not affected my ties with pressmen in Seremban as we have always been close and have mutual respect for each other,” he added.
