NGOs warned on Thiyaggurudeen case

Thiyaggurudeen was a Muslim receiving Baitulmal assistance.
ThiyaggurudeenSEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hassan has claimed that there’s a story behind the story of G.Thiyaggurudeen, a 14-year-old boy in Port Dickson, who attempted suicide by drinking paraquat.
“There are two sides to the story,” said Mohamad Hassan. “We cannot just listen to one side.”
Thiyaggurudeen, he further claimed, was a Muslim receiving Baitulmal assistance.
The Menteri Besar was warning NGOs and the Opposition to be careful when championing conversion issues.
He reiterated that a proper management system would be put in place as the state had a “divorce first, convert later” policy. “Statutory declarations are a must under the policy,” said Mohamad Hassan.
Thiyaggurudeen, it’s learnt, was taken away from his school by eight religious officers to the Islamic Propagation Centre (Pusat Dakwah Islam) in Paroi and questioned there for hours.
