IBRAHIM ALI HITS BULLS-EYE: Who indeed is Khairy without Pak Lah

IBRAHIM ALI HITS BULLS-EYE: Who indeed is Khairy without Pak Lah
Ibrahim Ali questioned whether Khairy Jamaluddin can even win a party divisional post if he was not the son-in-law of former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The Perkasa president said the Umno youth chief is where he is now because of his father-in-law and not because he is "that great".
"Khairy is lucky because he is Pak Lah's son-in-law. Ibrahim Ali would be lucky, too, if he is Pak Lah's son-in-law.
"But I am just anak orang kampung (a kampung boy). In Umno, everything is inherited," Ibrahim (left) told reporters in a meeting today.
He was earlier asked to comment on Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir who has yet to issue a statement in relation to the spat involving his father, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and current premier Najib Abdul Razak.
"It's good that he tries to take care of both parties. He respects his father who is a statesman and he realises that Najib had chosen him as menteri besar.
"That's the correct way (not hasty in making statements). From this I can see the characters of a statesman forming in him.
"So in this context, Khairy is more gelojoh (greedy). Mukhriz knew that reacting either way will only worsen the situation but he managed to control himself," he said.
Onus on Mukhriz to perform
Ibrahim also believes that the onus is now on Mukhriz to perform.
"Whether he stays as menteri besar does not depend on his father, but his performance," he said.
Commenting further on Khairy who said that he was in Najib's 'Team 1Malaysia' as he is a cabinet member, Ibrahim agreed that one had to support his or her leader.
"But most people support their leaders regardless of whether the leader is right or wrong.
"It's a vast difference from when I was a cabinet member. The bottom line is, I put my belief in God and support people based on reasoning," he said.
Admitting that it was obligatory for Umno members to support their leaders, Ibrahim said this is more so since Najib is the party president and was elected democratically.
"It is Najib's right to stay on or not. But then he needs to work hard (for improvements)," he added. - M'kini
