BN backbencher proposes briefings on POTA

Briefings should be held to clear allegations that POTA will be misused
pota_isa_600KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher yesterday proposed to the Home Ministry and the police to hold briefings on the Prevention of Terrorism Bill (POTA) 2015.
Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (BN-Tanah Merah) said the briefings may be started with showing video footages of the so-called IS militant group’s violent acts. “This must be done because many Muslims are so easily influenced by the concept of jihad,” he said when debating the bill at the Dewan Rakyat here.
Deputy Home Minister Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar tabled the bill for the second reading yesterday.
Ikmal Hisham said the briefings should also be held in secondary schools and higher education institutions so that young people would understand what POTA was about and the seriousness of the militant group’s threats.
He said the briefings would also clear allegations that linked POTA with politics.
