We must do everything legally possible to get Anwar out

Barbed wire fails to stop vigil for Anwar.
amibiga vigilsKUALA LUMPUR: Supporters of Anwar Ibrahim led by his daughter Nurul Izzah and former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan turned up at the Sungai Buloh prison last night in a show of support for the release of the Opposition leader.
The crowd was not deterred even though a barbed wire barricade was erected and streetlights leading to the prison were switched off.
Ambiga told the crowd that the people should not be cowed when faced with obstacles like barricades and darkness but do everything legally possible to release Anwar from prison.
“When they switch off the lights, our candles would burn brighter… you can never take away the spirit of the rakyat.
“We must not be afraid. We must do everything legally possible to get Datuk Seri Anwar out of there (prison).”
Izzah then recited a poem with the message that her father was innocent.
With her voice breaking on several occasions, Izzah who is PKR vice-president and Lembah Pantai MP, told the crowd that the last time she saw her father was on February 13.
Family members are only allowed one visit a month.
“We would do our best this March 7,” she said, referring to the KitaLawan rally tomorrow.
The supporters lit more candles and used their handphone flash to light up the event and then broke into the song, “Suara Rakyat”.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil urged the crowd to attend tomorrow’s rally to demand for Anwar’s release and push for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
The Federal Court had on February 10 found Anwar guilty of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and upheld the five-year prison sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal.
