Water tariff up in Penang from April 1

This is to avoid water rationing in the future and also to inculcate the habit of saving water.

GEORGE TOWN: Penangites will have to pay more for water from April 1 to avoid water rationing and to reduce consumption.

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBA) chief executive officer Jaseni Maidinsa said the state wanted consumers to save water to avoid rationing.

“To prevent water rationing, use less water and pay less. If you continue to use too much water, be prepared to pay more.” he said in a statement today.

Under new tariff rates, Penangites will have to pay 16.7% more for water.

Domestic users who use 20,000 to 35,000 litres per month will pay only 60 sen more per month.

Those using 35,000 litres per month will have to pay more.
