THE SCENT OF NAJIB'S BLOOD: 'Suspension' of Dr M’s blog shows huge public concern over 1MDB
KUALA LUMPUR - The temporary unavailability of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s blog following a post on 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) demonstrates the public’s craving for information on the state investor, said PKR’s Rafizi Ramli.
Commenting on the outage that hit the former prime minister’s blog last night, Rafizi said he was unsure if the incident was the result of a cyber attack as claimed or if the server simply crashed due to the amount of traffic following Dr Mahathir’s post.
“Whatever the case, it shows the burning interest of Malaysians for developments regarding 1MDB. Information so far has also caused uneasiness among the populace to the point they are searching for details on 1MDB,” the Pandan MP said in a statement.
He further said this hunger for information was evidence that the authorities were not adequately addressing public concern over 1MDB and its debt, causing the Malaysians to reject the explanations given.
The PKR secretary-general also said the apprehension over the fund crossed political barriers, saying that the magnitude of the issue has transcended party affiliations.
“I agree with the matters raised by Tun Mahathir on 1MDB. In fact, we regularly speak about the same issues.
“I also agree with Tun Mahathir’s writing that the 1MDB will cause BN to lose support in the 14th general election,” he added.
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir warned Barisan Nasional that it risked losing votes in the next general election if Putrajaya fails to adequately answer the numerous allegations levelled against 1MDB.
He further urged Putrajaya to initiate a forensic audit on the state-owned firm, in addition to the Auditor General’s scrutiny of its accounts, in order to provide satisfactory explanations to the allegations surrounding 1MDB.
Later yesterday evening, Dr Mahathir’s personal blog at chedet.cc became unavailable, prompting suspicions that it was either attacked or blocked due to his comments on 1MDB.
But the former prime minister’s aide later clarified that the site was taken offline to protect the servers from unusually high traffic.
1MDB, a brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is currently the subject of an investigation by the Auditor General’s Department and in line for further scrutiny by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar also announced that a task force comprising officials from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will investigate any wrongdoing uncovered by the audit. - Malay Mail
