The former Bank Rakyat chairman says he would fight it all the way. “I don’t have RM1.1 billion to pay up.”
sabaruddin chik, deepak suit2KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Secretary-General Sabbaruddin Chik has not sighted legal documents purportedly filed and served on him by a carpet dealer suing him and another for defamation.
If true, pledged Sabbaruddin who is also the former Bank Rakyat chairman, he would fight it all the way. “I don’t have RM1.1 billion to pay up.”
Carpet dealer Deepak Jaikishan announced on Thursday that he had, on March 6, filed a massive RM1.1 billion defamation suit against Sabbaruddin and Shahbudin Husin, in respect of the book ‘Membongkar Skandal Deepak & Bank Rakyat – dari isi hati Sabbaruddin Chik’ (‘Exposing the Scandal of Deepak & Bank Rakyat – from the heart of Sabbaruddin Chik’.)
He also said that the Statement of Claim, which was expected to set out in detail the words in the book which were claimed to be defamatory of Deepak, had been filed on Thursday.
The court case papers appear to have been served on Sabbaruddin by Deepak’s solicitors on record, Leela A Sanghrajka & Associates, on March 10.
Deepak had on March 6 also secured an Ex-Parte Interim Order preventing Sabbaruddin and Shahbudin either by themselves or through their agents from printing, publishing, distributing and marketing the book or its contents or words which were defamatory of the Plaintiff.
The Order was issued by High Court Judge Vazeer Alam Bin Mydin Meera without the presence of the defendants or their solicitors.
Deepak was represented at the hearing by Ashokvijay Jayantilal Sanghrajka.
An inter parte hearing has been scheduled for March 20 before the same judge, at which the defendants are likely to appear.
