Undeterred by arrests following its last rally, the #KitaLawan movement will hold another street protest this Saturday in Kuala Lumpur to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the release of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
#KitaLawan secretariat member Fariz Musa said they were waiting to meet the police to discuss their plans to rally, adding that the demonstration would go on regardless of police feedback.
"Whatever the situation, March 28 will still go on. Whether police give their permission or not, we will continue," he said at a press conference today at Dataran Merdeka in the capital city.
Fariz said it made no difference whether a permit was required or not, as "we still get arrested".
The PKR-led movement is expecting a bigger turnout compared to the last rally held on March 7.
Police had allowed the rally then to proceed but the next day began hauling up the organisers, which included PKR leaders as well as activists, for investigations.
To date, 11 people have been arrested over the March 7 rally.
"We expect that (bigger turnout). Previously people were just waiting to see (what happened), and the March 7 protest opened people's eyes," PAS Youth treasurer Mohd Fakhrul Razi said.
As a prelude to the mass gathering, the #PecatIGP campaign will be launched tonight at 9pm at the #KitaLawan sit-in venue. The organisers are planning to disclose a list of the inspector-general of police's alleged abuse of power and tyranny.
A mega ceramah titled “People against GST March 27” will be held at 9pm on Friday, and several prominent leaders and politicians as well as youth and student activists are expected to give speeches.
Among them are Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and PKR vice-president Tian Chua.
"People are invited to be together with #KitaLawan activists overnight at Dataran Merdeka," Fakhrul said.
The March 28 #KitaLawan rally will have three meeting points: at Masjid Jamek, led by Rafizi and Fariz; at the Dataran Merdeka fountain, led by Tian Chua, Nurul Nuha Anwar and Mandeep Singh and at PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, led by Mohamad Sabu, PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat and Universiti Malaya Muslim Students group president Khairol Najib.
The protesters will march to Sogo at 4pm.
"The message of this gathering will focus on Najib's extravagant administration while people are facing difficulties coping with the high cost of living with the implementation of the GST," Fakhrul said.
