Guan Eng has work, so not attending rally

CM says he and other state assemblypersons are needed in Penang to hand out appreciation awards to senior citizens.
lim guan eng2GEORGE TOWN: While NGOs and members of youth wings of the various parties under Pakatan Rakyat join the #KitaLawan rally tomorrow, the chief minister has excused himself because he has important tasks to carry out in Penang.
“We need to carry out our responsibilities in the state,” Lim Guan Eng was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini after attending the ground-breaking ceremony of the SP Chelliah affordable housing project here today.
He explained that as state assemblyman for Air Puteh, he would be busy at his constituency distributing appreciation awards of RM100 to senior citizens.
“It is a people’s programme, so we need to treat that as a priority,” Lim said.
“We have already instructed all the assemblypersons to assist in the distribution of the money, so we are not going (to the rally),” he explained.
The general feeling is that tomorrow’s rally will see a smaller turnout compared to previous ones as many elected representatives are tied up with Chinese New Year open houses and state government programmes.
Tomorrow’s rally that will start at 3pm in Kuala Lumpur has been planned in support of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim who was jailed for sodomy. It will also call for the resignation of prime minister Najib Razak.
