BLOW FOR DR M? BN leaders pledge support for Najib amid talk of no-confidence vote
Amid speculation that the daggers are out for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, the presidents of BN component parties pledged their unwavering support him.
"We as presidents of components parties would like to declare our support for Najib for his leadership and we would be standing all the way behind him to lead BN and for the transformation of the country," said MCA president Liow Tiong Lai in Parliament.
Among the notable figures present were Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem, MIC president G Palanivel, PPP president M Kayveas and Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Attacks on Najib have intensified over the weeks over his wealth and the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Also firing salvos at him is former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Adenan who is Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, said the decision to support Najib was an undivided decision by all the parties in BN.
This is an unanimous decision made with no dissenting voices and includes all component parties in Peninsular Malaysia as well as in Sabah and Sarawak," he claimed.
He added the press conference was done to “avoid any unnecessary speculation [...] we want to make it very clear”.
'Need to be together'
Stating it was important for BN parties to stick together to achieve the national transformation target by 2020, Liow (below) said all of them needed to face the coming challenges together.
“We are confident the national transformation will achieve its target before to 2020.”
“I think it is important that all the component parties are together and united and are strong in facing all these challenges especially in the years ahead when we are transforming BN.
"We need to be together and with one voice to support the prime minister,” added Liow.
When asked to comment about the hudud law amendments passed by Kelantan assembly today, the party leaders refused to answer and said Najib would be issuing a statement on it later.
“Regarding hudud, we have also discussed it and have decided for the prime minister to release an official statement. I think the statement will be out tomorrow,” Liow said. - M'kini
