Vegetables in Klang Valley costing a shocking RM10/kg

Vegetables produced by Ulu Yam and Cameron Highlands, not by flood-affected areas as claimed by traders.
vege2KLANG: Certain vegetables previously sold at RM3 per kilogram are now priced at RM10 per kilogram in the Klang Valley with most traders claiming it is due to the recent floods although this was not the case.
In fact, spinach, green beans and mustard sold in wet markets around Klang Valley were produced by farms in Ulu Yam and Cameron Highlands.
Selangor Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Office assistant director Yusof Bakar said the vegetable price hike should not have happened and that his office was monitoring the situation although they could not take any action as vegetables did not fall in the category of controlled items.
“All we can do is to advise traders not to raise the price anymore,” he told reporters after participating in a post-flood operation here yesterday.
