THE ALTANTUYA OPTION: Can Najib outsmart Mahathir? Will Mahathir put up or shut up!

THE ALTANTUYA OPTION: Can Najib outsmart Mahathir? Will Mahathir put up or shut up!
The efforts within Umno to remove Datuk Seri Najib Razak started almost immediately after he took power from Tun Abdullah Badawi. But the saboteurs cleverly hid their hands until the 13th general election or GE-13. Indeed, the bids to oust him were so numerous and large-scale that the anti-Najib factions in Umno were quite confident that he would be forced to quit his post.
Some people say the anti-Najib team loosely comprises of Tun Dr .Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, Tan Sri Muhyiddin, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and several others including some Umno leaders from Sabah. There are also other politicians, influential individuals, NGOs and bloggers who contributed to the efforts.
Unfortunately for them, the whole effort fizzled out when Najib was able to persuade most of them to support him and of course with certain promises. It has been Najib’s strategy to lure his enemies into his camp, unlike Dr. Mahathir who would not have second thoughts to clamp down on or sack his enemies.
Until recently, the anti-Najib camp have time and again been frustrated with their failures, such that Najib is now more confident of himself. Despite having scandals of his own and scandals of his cabinet ministers and top supporters, Najib has been able to outsmart even the wily Dr. Mahathir many times.
The testimony to his achievement is his wife Rosmah Mansor. Rosmah has not changed a bit in her lifestyle, activities and her self-elect role as the FLOM. Najib has never been so accommodative to her demands and antics as in the recent 9M-NAA government plane related holidaying.
Thus the question should actually be asked the other way around,, “Can Mahathir outsmart Najib?”
Najib, more cunning than Dr M expected
Dr M and PM Najib
Initially the mudslinging that has been going on between the anti-Najib Umno and pro-Najib Umno seems to have gained momentum; it could be the final onslaught, now or never thing. Now it has become a tit for tat thing at the verge of being ridiculous and the furor has somewhat waned off.
What has been going on now is quite predictable and such that some people even suggested several names to replace Najib. However, are the mudslingings for real or just empty threats?
Is Dr. Mahathir really serious in wanting to replace Najib? Won’t the risk be too high that the present ‘war’ could also destroy Umno?
Don't ever take Dr M for granted
And if Dr. Mahathir is really serious, he should ask Sirul and Azilah whether Najib was involved in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, as simple as that; go straight to the point like what he did to Anwar. But what is preventing him from approaching the duo?
Maybe it is true as claimed by Sirul’s son that if his statement to the authorities is publicized, Malaysia’s reputation will suffer and Najib will also fall.
Indeed it is too huge a risk because it would also affect Malaysia; if Najib falls at this critical time of our country without a proper handing over of the baton, it would be a disaster. Now with Sirul in Australia with the information from Sirul, Malaysia is at ransom. But that is another story!
Thus, the view of the Najib camp is that the best Dr Mahathir can do is to continue wandering around the bush, griping and grousing without any concrete outcome.
That seems to be the view of Najib's advisers and he seems to trust it. Right or wrong, time will tell. But one piece of advise, never ever take Dr Mahathir for granted. He is ruthless to the core and at 90, he may decide on one final charge.
Sirul is not the only weapon that can be used against former playboy Najib, but it is closest at hand and also the noisiest and extremely high-impact! Just like the C4 used in the Altantuya murder.
Actually, Najib is really quite dispensable. The general view of him is not flattering at all. Most in and outside Malaysia see him as weak leader who has done little to progress Malaysia.
All sorts of ideas and solutions can be tried to shore up confidence should he be ousted. Also, the damage done to Malaysia's economy is already so bad, losing Najib as PM may even boost the markets and give hope for real long-term reform.
Tantrums by the two ageing Tuns
However, that is not how Najib's inner circle seems to see the situation. Their is a rose-tinted vision of staying in power forever.
To them, whatever is going on now - the psy-war launched by Dr M's media strongmen Zainuddin Maidin (aka Zam) and Kadir Jasir - are nothing more than just a sickening and toothless ‘sandiwara’.
Daim Zainuddin (right)
Perhaps this is why Datuk Seri Najib Razak cannot be bothered to comment or react to the tantrums of the two Tuns. It is sufficient enough for Najib’s supporters to retaliate.
Now, even Zam has apparently given up his support to the anti-Najib camp and Tun Daim may also be silenced when the MACC come out with their findings!
Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi have not uttered a single word against Najib.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin is behaving like an obedient servant; only words of praise which ultimately made him the “kaki bodek” numero uno.
Wealthiest of them all, Najib can afford to sit pretty?
Yes, indeed perhaps this is Najib can afford to do more overseas travel and walkabouts!
As far as his camp is concerned, the worst that Dr Mahathir can do to him is to publicly persuade him to buck up and take the necessary steps to improve the present state of the country and Umno. What's a little bit of embarrassment to a big man like Najib. He can absorb the Mahathir-Daim whining, no prob.
To the Najib camp, Dr Mahathir will not be able to force Najib to follow the course charted by him.
Moreover, who is there in Umno now who can replace Najib and to take on the Pakatan Rakyat in the GE-14?
Oh, before you raise your hand, please remember the 1MDB debacle and the billions allegedly 'siphoned' off. Who could beat that sort of war chest, guys! Now you understand the puffed chest, the blind confidence and sheer arrogance? - MAILBAG
