Stop vilifying PM, Kadir Jasin told

Najib is human, but he does his duties, says Penang Umno.

PETALING JAYA: Penang Umno has hit out at Abdul Kadir Jasin over a recent blog article in which the veteran journalist called for the ouster of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

In an interview with Utusan Malaysia yesterday, Penang Umno Secretary Musa Sheikh Fadzir told Kadir to stop vilifying the Prime Minister “at a time when unity is needed” in the face of the flood crisis.

Kadir’s article was an indisguised call on Umno and Barisan Nasional to unseat the Prime Minister. Musa did not refer to the call directly. Instead, he criticised the Kadir for harping on Najib’s golfing holiday in Hawaii, saying it was part of a “shadow play” with the “objective of weakening and bringing down the government”.

He said Najib’s holiday should no longer be an issue because he had cut it short and returned to “do everything he could” for the flood victims.

He questioned Kadir’s sincerity and “true agenda”, noting that he (Kadir) had not criticised opposition figures like Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Guan Eng, “who not only went on holiday too, but have allegedly not done anything” for the flood victims.

“Now is the time for all parties to unite and help the flood victims,” he said. “Kadir must stop trying to pursue his hidden agenda because Najib has already been on the ground.

“I’m also a critic, but in this case, I’m with Najib. It’s better for Kadir to help the flood victims than to show how good he is as a critic.”

Musa told Kadir and other government critics to “look in the mirror” to see if they are free from weaknesses before criticising Najib.

“Najib is also human,” he said. “But as the Prime Minister, he has carried out his responsibilities.”
