RM300 fine?KUALA LUMPUR: Has justice been served? A horrific accident that snatched the lives of eight innocent passengers, while injuring 21 others and causing the bus they were in to go up in flames after crashing into a ravine, has resulted in a fine of RM300.
According to Bernama, the accident occurred when the bus driver swerved while trying to avoid a wheel from another vehicle that was in the middle of the highway in the lane he was travelling on.
In a report on The Star Online, federal deputy traffic chief Mahamad Akhir Dar said if police could trace the vehicle from which the wheel came, the owner was liable to a RM300 fine under Rule 19 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
He explained, “That is the fine for a load falling off a vehicle,” adding that police were currently on the case.
Meanwhile Mahamad also revealed that from available records, it was found that the bus driver had three outstanding summonses including a warrant for his arrest.
He explained, “Based on our records, his outstanding summonses were for obstructing traffic with his motorcycle, using a mobile phone while driving and speeding.
“The arrest warrant was issued for using his mobile phone while driving.”
