MALAYSIA TELLS MUSLIMS TO SAY 'NO' TO K-POP - govt agency Jakim warns of hidden agenda against Islam'
In a Friday sermon today by the Islamic Development of Malaysia (Jakim), Muslims were once again warned about the dangers of fanatical idol worshipping of Korean pop (K-Pop) stars.
The sermon touched on the “hidden agenda” of these K-Pop concerts and how those with a shallow mind might simply assume it is all merely entertainment and nothing more.
“We have been shocked recently by the actions of a handful of youths and their involvement with overseas entertainment programmes that are extreme and overlaps religious values. These people are so fanatical that they are willing to embrace and worship their pop idols in public.
“We may not recognise the tactics or agenda behind these concerts brought by people from these culture. And those with a superficial mind, they might think it’s purely entertainment. But if we were to research these in depth, we may find answers to the questions of values, mannerisms, culture and morals brought by them,” the sermon said.
This incident, the sermon said, is a serious and dangerous vice as it is contrary to the actual teachings of Islam, therefore, in order for Muslims to make sure that the Islamic culture is properly preserved, there must be proper crisis management.
“We need to practice proper crisis management methods, so that we can efficiently eliminate problems before they turn cancerous and spread throughout the community,” it said.
The sermon reminded Muslims that Islam can be attacked or even destroyed in various forms, from both the West and the East.
The pollution of morality and the worship of popular culture it said, can be disseminated through mass media, the Internet, books, magazines, propaganda and ideologies.
“The organisers of such events should do more research whether or not their shows are appropriate with the way of life of Islamic Malays in this country,” the sermon said.
Today’s theme was about ‘Transformasi Diri’ (Self-Transformation), referring to transformation as migration or a transition, namely to make changes to the state of one’s being to another, much better state. - M'kini
