IT'S BACK! Govt jet returns to KL after 'world tour of shopping paradises', no sight of ROSMAH or Najib
PETALING JAYA - Questions are being asked as to the reason Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak went to Thailand on Friday without fanfare, especially when the purpose of the trip, according to Bernama, was to meet the Thai Prime Minister to thank him for his government’s contribution to flood relief in Malaysia.
Inevitably, the talk in cyberspace connects the visit to the fact that the government’s private jet was parked in Bangkok. The jet, designated as Perdana 1, has been the subject of speculation since Najib cut short his Hawaiian holiday to attend to the flood crisis in Malaysia.
Perdana 1 has since arrived in Malaysia. It landed at KLIA at 10:20 last night and at Subang Airport about one hour afterwards.
It is not known whether Najib was on it or whether it had any passenger at all. But Umno critic Shahbudin Husin predicted in his blog entry yesterday that Perdana 1 would take Najib home, the implication being that it would be a ruse to end speculation about Rosmah Mansor using the jet for her holiday.
Shahbudin noted that the public didn’t know that Najib was in Thailand until the Prime Minister himself announced it through Facebook and Twitter.
“Why did Najib go to Thailand so quietly?” he asked. “Was it an official visit or a private trip to continue his interrupted holiday?
“If it was an official visit, who were in his delegation and why weren’t there journalists to tag along and why wasn’t there any press coverage of his meeting with the Thai Prime Minister?
“If, on the other hand, it was a holiday, why did he go on the quiet? After all, there would be many willing to send him off and kiss his hand, if only he had announced it.”
Shahbudin expressed the suspicion that the real reason for the trip was to bring home Perdana 1 and that the meeting with the Thai premier was just to cover that up. - FMT
