Increase warning signs and streetlights along highways

PLUS should intensify patrols to monitor highway safety levels.
plus road_300KUALA LUMPUR: The installation of warning signs and street lights should be increased on the highway to improve the level of safety for the users.
A member of the National Road Safety Council, Lee Lam Thye said the highway operators and the Transport Ministry must discuss to improve safety procedures to avoid fatal accidents.
“I call upon the authorities to take appropriate action by installing lights and warning signs on certain parts of the highways where accidents occur frequently such as the stretch at Gua Tempurung, Perak,” he said.
He disclosed this when contacted by Bernama to comment on the accident involving a tour bus on the PLUS Highway early on Thursday morning which killed eight people.
The accident was believed to have occurred when the tour bus, carrying 30 passengers from Kuala Kurau and Parit Buntar, Perak heading for Genting Highlands, tried to avoid a lorry tyre in the middle of the road before skidding into a drain and caught fire at KM326.3 near the Tapah Toll Plaza at about 1.15am.
“PLUS should always monitor the level of safety on the highway by intensifying their patrol,” he said.
