MES deputy director of management Johara Abdul Wahab said that the floods in Kelantan, Terengganu and other states have not affected the grading of the papers despite reports of papers being destroyed in the floods.
"There are no SPM examination scripts missing. The marking of answer scripts have gone on according to schedule," she told The Malaysian Insider.
Education Minister II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh had announced prior to the floods last year that SPM results would be released on March 3, two weeks earlier compared with previous years.
The floods in Peninsular Malaysia that started in mid-December had affected five states including Pahang, Perak and Johor.
On December 27, reports emerged of a teacher in Kemaman, Terengganu who was killed after being swept away by strong currents after she went back to her flood-hit home to retrieve SPM answer scripts that she had yet to mark.
Nurhayati Sulong, 37 died along with her husband Suhaimi Awang in the tragedy when the boat they were on with six others became trapped in a whirlpool and then capsized.
Speculations were rife that answer scripts could have been destroyed or gone missing due to the floods which has left more than 150,000 people displaced from their homes.
Parents Action Group for Education (PAGE) Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim had earlier said the thought of SPM answer scripts going missing had crossed her mind as the papers were distributed to teachers nationwide.
"No reason why it could not have happened. But if it was destroyed, there is nothing you can do about it.
"The Education Ministry should come up with a plan should this happen," she added.
