UMNO man wants Najib out; MIC man wants Palani out

Palani Najib
Seeds of rebellion are being planted in Umno, since a branch leader of the party has called for the resignation of party president Najib Abdul Razak. Syed Rosli Jamalullail, information chief for the Pusat Bandar Taman Chempaka Umno branch, released an open letter addressed to Najib, which says, “If you really love Umno and BN, then you had best withdraw.
We express our heartfelt thanks for your contributions.” This follows last week’s police report by a Penang Umno divisional leader against 1MDB, calling for investigations into the management of its funds. The sovereign fund is seen as one of Najib’s biggest political liabilities. An online portal today quoted Syed Rosli’s letter as blaming Najib for the loss of votes for BN’s non-Malay parties and asserting that the support for Umno among Malays was getting weaker.
He said there were “liabilities” that Najib must bear and his resignation would “inject new life into the party”. “We do not mean to insult you, but Umno members feel that your services are no longer needed,” he said.
On the other corner, former MIC National Youth leader, Dato T Mohan had pointed out that Dato Seri G Palanivel is no longer fit to be the MIC President as his capabilities are being heavily doubted not only by the MIC members and Indian community but also by fellow BN cabinet members.
Palani’s lackadaisical attitude is very obvious and it is the main reason he is labeled as a passive leader. In the current ROS fiasco, Mohan pointed out that for a year the RoS had asked the party’s headquarters to justify the elections and after taking everything into consideration RoS found irregularities and called for fresh polls.
Mohan is concerned if the party fails to hold fresh polls, as directed by the RoS, it could lead to deregistration of the MIC. Mohan also challenged Palanivel to hold elections for the party president’s post to get a new mandate, adding that if the majority elected him, he could remain party president as long as he liked.
Mohan described Palanivel as a U-turn leader, first agreeing to hold fresh elections and now holding a meeting with an “illegal CWC” to decide on how to appeal the RoS decision.
Mohan said the rightful people who should be at the CWC meeting were the former elected members because the present group had been declared illegal.
He said they plan to hold a protest outside the party headquarters on Thursday (tomorrow) over the “illegal” meeting. “Whether the meeting is on or not, our protest will proceed as planned”, said Mohan.
