Selangor affordable houses below RM220K

Applications from developers to build affordable homes would be considered under a fast-track approach if they secure the necessary approvals by next year.
selangor housesSHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has given an assurance that affordable houses in the state would not exceed RM220,000 and would be nearby, if not along, transport links and services.
Affordable homes may even be as low as RM100,000, he added. “The programme will help generate greater economic growth.”
The assurance on affordable homes comes in the wake of reports that the GST, levying 6 per cent tax come April 1 next year, would push up the prices of houses.
“Selangor has an advantage over the Federal Government when it comes to building houses since we have plenty of land,” said Azmin after a morning assembly with government staff in Hulu Langat. “The Federal Government, under its 1Malaysia People’s Housing Programme, buys private and commercial land at higher cost to build houses.”
Selangor’s affordable houses, he reiterated, would be in locations close to public transportation lines and the city.
“Otherwise it would defeat the purpose,” said. “The state government will build 15,000 affordable homes over a two to three-year period.”
Azmin said that applications from developers to build affordable homes in the state would be considered under a fast-track approach if they secure the necessary approvals by next year.
“The developers have to start construction in 2015 and complete by 2018,” he said. “If they are late, they will not be able to enjoy the incentives we can provide them.”
Incentives include lower land premiums, waived development charges and fast-track approvals.
