Police to punish those spreading false info

Dissemination of false information on floods could impede work to rescue victims.
polis banjir_300PASIR MAS: The Kelantan police today issued a stern warning that action would be taken against those who spread false information about the flood situation in the state.
State police chief Mazlan Lazim said disseminating of false information, including through WhatsApp and Facebook, could impede work to rescue flood victims.
He was referring to a report on a tahfiz student said to have drowned in Rantau Panjang, which turned out to be false.
“We will take stern action against those responsible because false news like that can create anxiety among the public,” he told reporters after visiting flood victims at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Gual Tinggi, Rantau Panjang here today. Also present was Pasir Mas police chief ACP Haliluddin Rahim.
In a related matter, Mazlan advised residents in Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat, to be prepared for floods since the water level in Sungai Golok was still at the danger level.
Meanwhile, he said the search for a baby girl who slipped from her mother’s arms while the woman was wading through flood water in Kampung Sepertang, Kuala Krai, last Thursday, would continue. The incident occurred about 3am while the woman was wading through flood waters to reach an evacuation centre.
