A Barisan Nasional (BN) MP has joined growing criticism against the appointment of Christoph Mueller as Malaysia Airlines (MAS) chief executive officer, saying he should just be a consultant for the ailing national carrier.
The RM6 billion recapitalisation exercise by Khazanah Nasional to revive the nation's flagship carrier will see Mueller take over the helm from January 1 next year. Celcom chief executive Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramli will also join the MAS board as non-executive director on the same date.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said since the aviation industry is a strategic and important sector for the nation, the decision to appoint the top management should not have been done in such a simplistic and easy manner.
"While it may be true that Mueller is the 'best expert' in the industry, he can always serve as a consultant, not a chief executive officer," the Kepala Batas MP said in a statement today. – TMI
