KUALA LUMPUR - There are non-citizens registered as voters in Sabah but their exact numbers are a mystery.
This is what the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Immigrants in Sabah concluded.
The report said that there was evidence to show that immigrants who were not Malaysian citizens but issued blue ICs illegally, registered themselves as voters.
While testimonies of witnesses such as Parti Bersatu Sabah vice president, Radin Malleh and former senator Dr. Chong Eng Leong put the number of these voters at 80,620 and over 200,000 respectively, the RCI could not determine an exact number.
This was the report's findings into the Term of Reference paragraph (c) to investigate if those given blue ICs, temporary identification receipts or citizenships through unlawful means have been registered in Sabah’s electoral roll. -NST
