Usia steps up missionary work in Sabah

“Muslims in all areas must unite, work together and move towards a common goal to be respected by others.”
USIA sabahKOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Islamic Association (Usia), founded by former Sabah Governor and Chief Minister Mustapha Harun, is stepping up missionary activities in the state “to ensure that it stays relevant”.
These missionary activities, according to a statement in conjunction with the Usia Supreme Council meeting on Saturday, will be intensified next year after “an upgrading exercise of the association’s assets”.
The upgrading exercise is in line with Usia’s efforts, stressed the statement, to further develop its missionary movement in the state.
“Usia is very important as it is the core of the missionary movement which also covers community, economy, education, ICT and human resources development,” said Usia President Sakaran Dandai in the statement.
“The Investment, Development and Asset Management Committee of Usia has been given the responsibility of identifying its needs in various areas.”
He added that Usia can help develop the community if it fights as a missionary movement.
Sakaran, a former Sabah Governor and Chief Minister, conceded that Usia can only rise up to “meet the challenge of change” if the quality of its management and organisation becomes more effective.
“The challenges faced by Muslims mostly stem from their own weakness in missionary work,” stressed Sakaran. “Muslims in all areas must unite, work together and move towards a common goal to be respected by others.”
“Let us set an example to other communities by good behaviour and respect each other.”
Sakaran called on Muslim MP’s and Assemblymen to assist Usia in carrying out its activities.
