Finally, an airline takes off from Malacca airport

Malindo airlines will fly to Pekan Baru in Indonesia, Penang and Kota Bharu.
MalindoAir_3MALACCA: After lying idle for nearly eight months and RM240 million spent to upgrade the facilities and lengthen the runway, the Malacca International Airport (MIA) started commercial flights last Wednesday.
Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron said many meetings had been held with various airlines but so far only Malindo Air had agreed to operate from the airport.
Malindo Air will fly from the airport to Pekan Baru in Indonesia and Penang, five times per week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
“A one-way ticket to Pekan Baru will cost RM70 and RM79 to Penang.
“There will also be three flights per week to Kota Bharu starting on Nov 21, on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday,” said Idris.
In July, Ayer Keroh state assemblyman Khoo Poay Tiong said there have been no commercial flights taking off from the airport from March 15, despite millions spent to upgrade the facilities and lengthen the runway.
