Up to AG to act on PPS: Penang has NOTHING to hide - Guan Eng
GEORGE TOWN - The Penang Prosecution Unit of the Attorney-General's Chambers (AG) has forwarded the state voluntary patrol unit (PPS) investigation papers (IP) to its headquarters for further action.
Unit head Datuk Razali Che Ani said the IP was sent and we are now waiting further instructions," he told theSun when contacted.
Police are investigating the PPS under the Societies Act 1966 after the Registrar of Societies (ROS) said the unit was not registered.
Police have since Aug 31 detained 158 individuals to assist in investigations, including PPS coordinator and exco Phee Boon Poh. All have been released on police bail.
The unit also came under fire after a group of men wearing PPS vests allegedly assaulted a social activist on Aug 17.
Meanwhile, northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said police were still waiting for the report from the Chemistry Department on PPS members who tested positive for drugs.
In a related development, the state government said it will cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which is probing allegations that state funds were abused to establish the PPS.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said MACC is welcome to investigate.
"The Penang state government has nothing to hide," he said in a statement today after state MACC director Datuk M. Samarajoo reportedly said the commission will open a file if there were elements of corruption after receiving a report on the matter last Tuesday. -Sundaily
