SELANGOR TERMINATES ANWAR’S ECONOMIC ADVISOR ROLE

Faekah Husin
(The Star) – The Selangor executive councillor meeting on Monday decided to close the state economic advisor’s office at Plaza Perangsang with immediate effect to save costs.
Mentri Besar Incorporated (MBI) chief executive Faekah Husin said the state felt that economic matters could be handled by the Selangor State Investment Centre which has expertise in administration, procedures and promotion.
The state economic advisor’s post was created in 2009 and placed under the MBI to tap the expertise of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.
Faekah said the MBI thanked Anwar for his contributions as the advisor.
She said since the creation of the advisor’s post, various allegations and controversies had surfaced including questions of Anwar’s salary and his contributions to the state.
It was due to these, she said, that the advisor’s office be closed so that it did not overlap with the reponsibilities of officers assigned to look after the state’s economy and investments.
