PKR, DAP nominate Azizah to Sultan but mum on how many names sent
PKR and the DAP have submitted their nominations for the Selangor menteri besar post to the sultan of Selangor.
“PKR has sent the letter (containing the names) to the palace yesterday,” PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution told Malaysiakini.
He, however, declined to elaborate further when asked whether PKR had stayed firm in sending only one name for the post.
Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua confirmed that DAP and PKR only submitted PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's name.
He said that DAP submitted its nomination today while PKR sent in their nomination yesterday, ahead of tomorrow's deadline.
PKR and DAP in a joint statement last week said it will only name Wan Azizah (left) as their sole Selangor menteri besar candidate to replace incumbent Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
PAS, on the other hand, will be sending the letter tomorrow.
Its secretary-general Mustafa Ali said as party president (Abdul Hadi Awang) needed to sign the letter beforehand, matters related to the sending of the letter will be handled by the latter’s office.
“His office will send the letter tomorrow, although I am not too sure about the time,” he told Malaysiakini.
'No third name'
Mustafa also refuted a New Straits Times report which claimed that PAS will nominate a third person to replace Khalid.
“No, there is no such thing. We will only submit two names as decided during our meeting on August 17,” he said.
PAS on Aug 17 announced that it will back both Wan Azizah and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali for the menteri besar post after its central committee meeting.
The Selangor palace last week set Sept 3 as the deadline for Pakatan Rakyat parties to submit the names of candidates for the menteri besar post.
The sultan is expected to come to a decision on the replacement of Khalid as menteri besar soon. -M'kini
