Perhaps Perkasa too ‘lazy’ to lodge reports

YOURSAY ‘Malays are not lazy. If they appear to be lazy to Dr M, it is because...’

Will reports be made over Dr M's 'Malays are lazy'?

Aries46: This is nothing more than the run of the mill 'carrot and stick' Mahathir manoeuvre that hoodwinks the non-Malays into false glee and perpetuates the ills of the rotten NEP in all its guises that keeps the delusional Malays enslaved and his deceptive brainchild Umno Baru alive.

Based on the tacit silence, it appears that Umno Malays have become all too familiar and receptive to this periodic vitriol of the race in return for their continued handouts.

Of course, there are no free lunches and after all what is a little admonishment from the one that keeps them feasted?

But of course, the theories stand corrected if like the rest, former PM Mahathir Mohamad too is held accountable for his seditious outbursts.

Clearwater: Malays are not lazy. If they appear to be lazy to Mahathir, it is because of his slanted NEP (New Economic Policy) implementation which robbed them of pride and honour.

Any person of any race not challenged to give the best tends to be disinclined to do so. Now, who is to blame but Mahathir himself?

David Dass: Mahathir's comments must be seen in perspective. He is given to making harsh statements with the object of making people sit up and think.

He has struggled long and hard to advance the nation and the Malays. Some question the effectiveness of his methods. There are concerns about the extent of intermediation, the absence of competitive bidding and the leakages.

But as some have pointed out, there have been successes: the growth of the Malay professional classes and the growth of the Malay middle class.

It has been a long time since Independence and the implementation of the NEP. I thought that Mahathir had abandoned the NEP for the NDP (National Development Policy). But it does not matter.

It is time for a needs-based policy. Help those who need help whatever race they are. Help the natives of Sabah and Sarawak. Help the Orang Asli. Help the poor Indians and Chinese.

Policies must be inclusive. Think Malaysian. Reject extremism and racism. Learn lessons from the rest of the world. Encourage competitiveness and productivity.

Cukup Lah: This is serious sedition. Imagine if DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang or Lim Guan Eng or RSN Rayer would have said the same thing. All hell would have broken loose.

Kingfisher: Mahathir has championed the development and growth of Malays for much of his life. He would therefore be quite knowledgeable from his vast experience and his "missionary" zeal about character traits of many.

Behavioural patterns and character traits change over time in any given community or society due to a number of influences, for example, depth of intellectual tradition (language) and philosophy, norms on the moral imperatives one's life, including acceptance or agnosticism of canons of religion and the manner in which a community's social psyche is internalised in a "world view” based on some very fundamental civilisational tools.

Malays, like others, have to establish a balance given modern-day challenges of individuality and nationhood.

Fair Play: At least Dr M is fair. He took a swipe at everybody, including his own community.

Survivor: By the way, laziness is relative. Naturally humankind tends to be lazy until circumstance compel them to do the necessaries or if there is reward for doing the necessaries.

Take communist China for example, in its early days, nothing they do can achieve any societal improvement or advancement. The people remain poor and marginalised.

After the modernisation of the economy, you see the difference. The people and the government jointly are the driving force behind the engine of growth. We should emulate that.

Cronyism is still the disease. Meritocracy with a bit of tweaking here and there to improve the marginalised Malays should be the answer. Outright feeding and giving like the BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia) is certainly not the answer.

Myop101:  I think Mahathir have insulted the Malays. But it is entirely up to them whether they want to lodge a police report or not.

I definitely disagree with Mahathir on this one as I have lots of friends and colleagues to prove him wrong.

DontPlayGod: Perkasa was formed to defend the Malays, all Malays, even those Malays who have been convicted in court, such as Kiki (Siti Fairrah Ashykin Kamaruddin).

So can we see Perkasa come out with guns blazing to defend the Malays?

Tupaibesi: Perkasa, Isma and its ilk are too lazy to even lift a pen to write the police report, let alone lodge it.

Single Malt: If you don't book Mahathir for sedition then you should drop charges of all the opposition members and people you don't like as well.

If you don’t do that then it will tantamount to selective prosecution and double standards. -Mkini
