PAS is exploring the possibility of retaining Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor menteri besar (MB) as a means of resolving the impasse in the state.
Selangor deputy speaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang raised this possibility during a recent meeting with the youth wings of DAP, PKR, and PAS.
"During the meeting, I asked Hadi about possible solutions to resolve the impasse in Selangor," Nik Nazmi said in a statement today.
"This possibility would be in direct conflict with the Selangor assembly, as the majority of the state assembly support Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail."
Nik Nazmi said the majority of the Selangor legislative assembly were in favour of Dr Wan Azizah, the PKR president, succeeding Khalid as MB.
"Khalid is still administering Selangor, as the ongoing tussle of who should succeed him has yet to be resolved."
Nik Nazmi (pic, left) said any solution to resolving the impasse in Selangor should be done with the unanimous approval of all partners in Pakatan Rakyat.
Two of the coalition’s partners, DAP and PKR, peeved the Selangor palace when it refused to nominate more names for the Sultan to consider for the MB post.
The Sultan revealed he was extremely disappointed with PKR and DAP for defying the decree he made on August 27, 2014‎.
"DAP and Keadilan's actions reflect their insolence towards the royal institution and is treason towards the Selangor Sultan," said the statement issued by the Sultan's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.
It said Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had decreed each party within Pakatan Rakyat to submit more than two names, saying it was the palace's convention on the matter.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng sought forgiveness from the‎ Sultan for submitting only one name for the menteri besar position, while reiterating the party's loyalty to the state monarch.
De facto PKR chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also sought forgiveness from the sultan, but insisted that PKR's decision to propose only one nominee, Dr Wan Azizah, was in line with the state's law and convention.
