MYSTERY TUESDAY: Pas MB hopeful Iskandar Samad DENIES receiving invitation for swearing-in ceremony
Iskandar Samad, the PAS assemblyman for Cempaka who is rumoured to be among the frontrunners being considered for the post of Selangor menteri besar, said he had not received an invite for the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.
Iskandar has played down those suggestions, and told The Star Online that his “appointment” was still speculation at this point.
“I have not received the invite yet, and am not even sure if it’s authentic. I have checked with my office, and they have not received anything from the palace either,” he was reported as saying.
Iskandar said he would adhere to the party’s final decision on the matter.
“I am currently at the (PAS) muktamar and we are discussing this issue. I will follow what the party leadership says as they have yet to reach a final decision,” the Selangor PAS commissioner said.
He added that it had been previously agreed that PAS would not claim the post as it was PKR’s.
“The central leadership also previously stated that they would leave it to the wisdom of the Sultan in deciding the best candidate. So let’s wait and see what the Sultan decides,” Iskandar told The Star Online when asked to comment on the possibility of Azmin being chosen ahead of PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
There have two opposing views from PAS's leadership on the issue. While one faction of the PAS leadership endorsed Dr Wan Azizah or her deputy Azmin Ali, another faction nominated three other state lawmakers to the Selangor Sultan.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has not denied that he had nominated a Selangor PAS leader for the post.
There are worries in PR that a Selangor menteri besar from PAS would not be accepted as it goes against the coalition’s understanding that the post should go to PKR.
Yesterday, PAS deputy president Mohammad Sabu stated that a PAS menteri besar in Selangor would be short-lived.
"If DAP and PKR do not agree with the choice for menteri besar it will be a temporary state government," he had said. –TMI
