MIC Youth to form anti-crime foundation

First time offenders will be counselled and crime-prevention programmes held in schools.

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC youth is looking into setting up a foundation to help fight gangsterism and crime which has seen the involvement of many Indian youth.

The foundation will comprise of ex-convicts, those who have been rehabilitated and various other individuals regardless of their political background.

MIC Youth chief C.Sivarraajh said the party’s youth wing will help bring in and counsel first time offenders who had served their sentence to ensure that they do not return to a life of crime.

“Aside from the foundation, the party would also fight crime at the grass roots level by organising various crime prevention programmes at schools across the nation.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Indian Youth Council president Reghu Devan Lopez applauds the move to assist in the rehabilitation and assimilation of former convicts back to society and to receive such help from MIC and the youth council.

“We are ready to offer help such ex-convicts set up small businesses for them to turn over a new leaf,” said Reghu.
