SHAH ALAM - As the closing act to his six-year tenure, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim close down the state economic adviser's office, which is held by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mentri Besar Incorporated (MBI) chief executive officer Faekah Husin said the office at Plaza Perangsang in Shah Alam has been shut down to save costs.
"The state executive council had today decided that the Selangor State Economic Adviser's Office is to be closed immediately to save state administration costs," she said in a statement.
Anwar was appointed state economic adviser in 2009 and his office was placed under MBI for the state to benefit from his experience and expertise as former finance minister and deputy prime minister.
Faekah thanked Anwar for his years of service but also pointed out criticisms levelled at the former that he had been receiving a wage that is unjustified for his advisory post.
She also said that the Selangor State Investment Centre (SSIC) can handle all economic-related activities from then on, which is a one-stop centre manned by trained and experienced administrative officers.
"With that, we think it is necessary for the State Economic Adviser's Office to be shut down so that it won't overlap with the duties and responsibilities of other state government officers who are specifically in charge of economic and investment matters," Faekah said. -Sundaily
