Democracy is biggest loser in MB saga

YOURSAY ‘Finally the saga ends. Who is the ultimate winner? Umno.’

PKR gives Azmin last-minute endorsement as MB

Kim Quek: A day of celebration under normal circumstances has been turned into a day of mourning for constitutional rule.

This appointment of Selangor MB is a total disgrace, an insult to the fine tradition Malaysia has kept in the appointment of government head in accordance with the letter and spirit of the constitution.

The nominee of the ruling coalition with proven majority support was shunned without any reason, while an un-nominated person was appointed as MB instead.

If the monarch can dictate who the government leader is, with no regard to the electoral process that has produced a ruling party which in turn has elected its leader to head the government, then we have to ask the question: Is democracy still in existence?

If so, why is the decision of the majority of the people as reflected in their elected representatives completely ignored?  Clearly, constitution has been gravely breached.

Parliament must now act to rectify the damage, lest it will set a dangerous precedence that can cause an avalanche of erosion of constitutional rule.

Meanwhile the attorney-general, as chief legal adviser to the Agong and the government, must promptly speak up to put this unfortunate incident in proper legal perspective. Lastly, Pakatan Rakyat should explore legal remedies.

Ferdtan: The decision has been made by the sultan to choose PKR deputy president Azmin Ali as MB. It is not what most people expected or desired as conventions and laws are seen not to be followed.

There are ambiguities in interpretations of the law. It was not helped when the PM Najib Razak, his federal government and the AG irresponsibly washed their hands off the matter of law, not commenting on such important issue because the tussle was between the palace and the Pakatan government.

This is not statesmanship expected of a responsible federal government to lend weight to iron out the correct interpretation of the law, no matter who benefits from it. This is politics most foul.

Rakyat101: Wan Azizah, you are our real hero. You know when it is time to withdraw and you do so gracefully.

DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim) is also a winner in this saga. You made a point and were courageous to uphold the constitution and we the public fully recognised that. You could have brought this fight against the palace further, but decided not in the interest of the rakyat. To prolong this saga further would only benefit Umno-BN.

For Azmin, be humble and thankful to your Pakatan colleagues who are willing to accommodate you. You must accept this appointment with a heavy sense of responsibility to serve the rakyat.

You need to reach out to your DAP, PKR and PAS colleagues, including those in the opposition. Build Selangor to be a role model state and prove to the voters that Pakatan can govern well and better than BN.

You Help Me, I Help You More: Throughout this constitutional fiasco, if there are two persons who stood out like a beacon it was both Wan Azizah and Azmin. As such, either one of them deserved to be the new MB.

We have seen how the outgoing MB Khalid tried unashamedly to hang on to his post even though he had lost the majority. So it was a blessing that he was eventually ousted by the brilliant ‘Kajang Move’ that was initiated by PKR strategist Rafizi Ramli. Had it not been started, Khalid would have been more like ‘remote controlled’ by BN.

We also saw the true colours of PAS and their president Abdul Hadi Awang who spewed venom on Wan Azizah's MB hopes by claiming she is not fit for the job. He even lambasted both PKR and DAP for endorsing her, not to mention the fact that he would also support a PAS candidate to the MB's post if it were to be offered to PAS.

This went against the principles of comradeship and consensus amongst the Pakatan alliance. Selangorians will make them pay in GE14. Just mark my words.

U-Say I-Say: PKR should move forward to prepare for the next GE. Azmin as MB will now be busy with running the state government. Wan Azizah should now actively run the party's political bureau, including early selection of candidates for the next GE.

She must also be ready to act tough with the Hadi and his gang if PAS remains in Pakatan. Don't allow Hadi and gang a single opportunity to work against Pakatan. Work closely with PAS deputy president Mohamad ‘Mat’ Sabu and his more trustworthy colleagues.

Moontime: Finally the saga ends. Who is the ultimate winner? Umno. I sincerely hope I'm wrong but the nagging feeling that all these is part of Umno's strategy to wrest the state back from Pakatan still persists.

The Trojan horse is inside the gate now, waiting for the right moment to unleash its nightmare. I don't trust Azmin and I doubt it that my perception will change soon. Let's see if he can outperform his predecessor in terms of managing Selangor's resources and manpower. Only time will tell.

And with that I begrudgingly say all the best and good luck in your new job. You may need it sooner than you think.

CQ Muar: The time is nigh to close rank and move on in readiness for the next general election.

In all honesty, Azmin has proven beyond doubt in loyalty, therefore the MB decision could be heralded as a blessing in disguise. Unlike Khalid, Azmin can strategically forge ahead under PKR with the partnership of DAP.

In any case, one thing is certain, the saga unwittingly exposed the true colours of PAS in the coalition. Henceforth, it's time to evaluate and rethink its position in the partnership - particularly that of Hadi Awang and his cohorts.

Not unexpectedly, as this is what the sultan decrees, so be it. Let's hope Azmin will remain committed and sincere serving the state of Selangor without fear or favour.

Anonymous #40538199: Azmin deserve to be appointed. We must understand that he is one of the pioneers in reformasi movement. Some of them already long jumped ship.

Loyalty in politics deserves to be rewarded. However, going forward, Azmin would have to serve the people of Selangor honestly and diligently in order to justify his appointment.

Hank Marvin: It is a sad end for Khalid; he desperately wanted Azmin not to become MB. He even wanted Azmin to resign as Adun for Bukit Antarabangsa.

Khalid seems to have been conned by the person who initially looks like his saviour. Now he has put his nemesis as the MB. Poor Khalid. -Mkini
