Wan Azizah admits inexperience for MB job

The nominated candidate to replace Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor MB now says she lacks the necessary skills to govern the state.
wan azizahSHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who has been nominated to fill the Selangor Menteri (MB) post, admits she does not have enough experience to head a state government.
However, she said a change in MB was needed in Selangor now to improve on state policies while mantaining those that benefit the people.
“To me, a change in MB is not important, what is more important is upholding the trust placed in us,” she said at a rally on current issues in Selangor last night.
On July 21, PKR’s Central Leadership Council (CEC) unanimously agreed to Dr. Wan Azizah as the candidate for the new MB of Selangor, replacing Khalid Ibrahim who is in his second term as the MB.
Dr Wan Azizah, wife of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, also refuted allegations that her nomination smacked of nepotism.
“This is not nepotism because I was appointed by Anwar to lead the ‘reformasi’ movement when my husband was jailed in 1998,” she said.
Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, speaking at the same rally, outlined a scenario whereby Khalid, who was expelled by PKR yesterday, could be removed from the MB post if at least 29 Selangor assemblymen signed statutory declarations stating their loss of confidence in Khalid’s leadership.
He said this could be done outside of the State Assembly unlike a vote of no confidence, which must be done within it.
The Selangor State Assembly has 56 seats.
