Two more in 'Nudist Sports Games' surrender

Two more participants in the Penang Nudist Sports Games 2014, which took place at Kampi Beach at the Penang National Park in Teluk Bahang two months ago, have surrendered to police.

The two men, aged between 30 and 40 years, gave themselves up at the Barat Daya district police headquarters after police issued their final warning to the participants yesterday, Utusan Onlinereported this morning.

One of them, a Singaporean, believed to have been the group’s cameraman, will be remanded until Aug 17.

He surrendered last Wednesday, said Utusan Online, the online version of Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia.

The second man, a Malaysian, who gave himself up yesterday, will be remanded today, the online portal added.

“We are still on the hunt for the organisers of the event, Chew Tok Hwa of Sungai Petani, Kedah, and Singaporean Albert Yam, to help with our investigations,” Penang police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said.

A five-minute video clip of the “naked sports” event was uploaded onto the video-sharing site Vimeo about two months ago and it went viral.

Video publicised by Umno-linked blogs

It was removed on Aug 5, after a police report on the event was lodged.

The group, believed to comprise 15 “naturists”, took part in relay activities that included nude body painting, Gangnam Style Horse Dance, Crab Walking and campfire activities.

The event also caused an uproar after Sinar Harian reported that the illegal activity took place in the vicinity of a Muslim place of worship.

“What’s truly disgusting is that the participants of the event, in which they painted their naked bodies, took place in front of the Teluk Kampi surau,” Sinar Harian reported.

The video was also publicised by Umno-linked blogs, which pointed to it as yet another wrongdoing of the DAP-led Penang government.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng denied the state's involvement and said, “The state will never approve of such activities.”

If found guilty, the participants of the event can be jailed for up to five years and fined.
