Perkasa: Charge non-Muslims, too

Penang Perkasa Youth chief wants non-Muslims who have made derogatory remarks against Islam on social media to be charged too, not only Muslims.
222GEORGE TOWN: If Muslim preacher Shahul Hamid Seeni Mohd is charged with uttering racial and religious slurs, then the same must be done to non-Muslims who have made derogatory statements against Islam, said Perkasa Penang youth chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin.
Mohd Rizuad said the Attorney-General’s (AG) Chambers and police had adopted a double standard in applying the law.
He accused the AG Chambers and the police of not charging several non-Muslims who had made derogatory comments, especially on social media, against Islam and Muslims over the years.
He listed several Facebook users under the accounts of J Gopinath, Chow Jack, Sally Yen, Alex Tan, Kelvin Yap, Sim Kwang Yung Sim and David Orok as among those who had made derogatory comments against Islam and Muslims.
Mohd Rizuad said the AG’s Chambers and police also did not act against Namewee, Patrick Teoh and several DAP MPs for insulting Islam and hurting Muslim sentiments.
“If Shahul Hamid were to be charged then all others should be charged too,” said Rizuad in his WhatsApp message.
PAS member Shahul Hamid, 38, was caught in several video clips that went viral this week, making racists comments against Hinduism and curry powder manufacturers Alagappa’s and Baba’s.
Shahul, who has apologised since, is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948.
However, Mohd Rizuad advised Muslim preachers to uphold high moral values when delivering religious speeches to ensure they did not offend others.
“We must always respect the sensitivities of all religions and uphold religious and racial harmony all the time,” he said.
