MB demands apology on PKR 'expose' on him

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has sent a letter of demand to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail calling for him to retract and apologise for the release of a report on “why party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail should be menteri besar”.

The 13-page letter of demand was sent by Khalid's lawyers from Bon Advocates on Monday evening and a copy was sighted byMalaysiakini today.

Khalid wants an immediate retraction from Saifuddin (left) on the claims made in the report and a written apology, failing which the sacked PKR member will initiate legal action.

He was sacked by PKR last Saturday for his refusal to heed the part order for vacate his post of menteri besar.

The report by PKR had criticised Khalid's handling of his Bank Islam loan case, the Selangor water restructuring exercise, the proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and the garbage collection issues in the state.

Copies of the report were sent to PKR leaders, including de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, Wan Azizah, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

Copies were also sent to the central leadership of the three Pakatan Rakyat member parties and elected representatives. The dossier was dated Aug 4.

More legal letters to come

Khalid complained that the dossier painted a picture of him being engaged in illegal means in settling the Bank Islam loan, involved in bribery, being of an unsavoury character, untrustworthy, dishonest, hypocrite, unethical, not fit to be the menteri besar and who abused his power for his own benefit.

It is understood more legal letters are to be sent by Khalid's lawyers. Yesterday, it was reported the menteri besar also filed adefamation suit against online news site The Malaysian Insider.

In an unrelated development, Khalid has allowed PKR to hold the party's annual congress at Stadium Melawati in Shah Alam from Aug 22 to 24.

“We allow (PKR) to have the convention at the stadium,” Khalid said when met by reporters in Shah Alam.

Khalid's clarification comes after there were claims in a pro-Umno blog that Khalid had acted to cancel the permission for PKR to use the stadium for the congress following his expulsion from the party.

PKR director of communications Fahmi Fadzil when contacted denied that permission for the use of the site was cancelled.
