Khalid says sacking illegal, vows to stay on

Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has dismissed his sacking from PKR as "flawed and illegal", insisting that he will stay on as Selangor menteri besar.

"I acknowledge the decision - flawed and illegal as it may be - by PKR to terminate my membership in the party.

"Until such a time as this issue is resolved in accordance with proper procedures, laws and conventions, particularly the Selangor constitution.

"I will continue to perform my duty to the people as the Selangor menteri besar to the best of my ability," he said in a statement this evening.

The embattled MB's immediate move is to seek an audience with Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who happens to be scheduled with him for a function at the state mosque in Shah Alam tomorrow.

"I will now seek an audience with Selangor sultan to inform his royal highness of this latest development, and listen to any views his royal highness may have to share," he said.

Elaborating on his sacking, Khalid claimed there was a conspiracy against him.

"I have not been afforded a proper and fair legal process to respond to the allegations against me in line with due process.

"There has been a conspiracy of the highest order," he said.

'PKR's reasons confused'

He charged that PKR was "confused" over its allegations against him and failed to specify his exact breach of the party constitution.

PKR, which has found it increasingly difficult to work with Khalid, had instructed him to resign to be replaced with party president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Following his refusal, the disciplinary board had summoned him to a hearing to explain five matters.

They are the Selangor water restructuring plan, the menteri besar's allowance hike, the business license hike, the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and Khalid's own out-of-court settlement of a RM66 million loan with Bank Islam.

However, Abdul Khalid did not turn up for the hearing yesterday and instead delivered a letter asking for more details and a postponement.

He lamented that the party was not forthcoming in responding to him and had instead proceeded with the hearing today which resulted in his sacking.
