HE SHOULD BE SACKED FROM CABINET! Razali slammed for ‘stop building Chinese schools' statement
KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim has drawn flak for his recent remark that the government should stop building Chinese schools as they did not contribute to unity.
Jiao Zong (United Chinese School Teachers Association) on Wednesday lambasted Razali for "conceiving the fallacy that the existence of multiple streams of schools has led to disunity in the country", Sin Chew Daily reported today.
The educational movement said in a statement that the deputy minister's allegation is misleading and cannot hold water.
Otherwise, the Malays, who are educated under the same school system from primary to tertiary levels would not have been divided into opposing camps in politics, it said.
Jiao Zong said Razali's remark is aimed at denying the contributions of vernacular schools, creating suspicions and misunderstanding among the various races in the country, divert public attention from grouses against unfair government policies, and rationalising the government's intention to implement a single-stream school system in Malaysia.
The statement said to truly enhance national unity, the government should formulate and implement policies fair to all races.
Meanwhile, Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committee Association) said Razali's remark is biased, misleading and ridiculous as Chinese primary schools are popular not only among the Chinese but also non-Chinese as close to 15% of the pupils in these schools are non-Chinese.
The deputy minister is trying to blur the rakyat's vision in an attempt to camouflage the |Barisan Nasional government's policy of implementing a
single stream of schools in the country.
Chinese schools have existed before Merdeka and are an integral part of the national education system, playing a huge role in nurturing talents and nation building, Dong Zong said in a statement on Wednesday. -Sundaily
